247 Sports releases FBS conference power rankings entering 2022
With the college football season approaching its first games of the year, 247 Sports analyst Chris Hummer has dropped his preseason conference power rankings for the FBS level.
Unsurprisingly, Hummer’s rankings had the SEC anchored into the top spot. With Georgia the defending champions and Alabama leading the way on most preseason polls, the SEC will have a large target on its back for 2022.
However, not far behind at No. 2 overall is the B1G. The conference’s new media rights deal plays a large role in that, as well as the staying power of Ohio State and Michigan.
Here’s what Hummer had to say about the B1G:
Unsurprisingly, the two would-be superconferences sit atop this list. Ohio State is the most talented team in the country located outside of the Southeast, and those like Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Penn State give the conference plenty of firepower when it comes to the national conversation. Those high-level contending programs separate the Big Ten from every other non-SEC league. But the Big Ten also has depth.
Here is how the 10 FBS conferences ranked 1-10 on Hummer’s list:
- 1. SEC
- 2. B1G
- 3. Big 12
- 4. ACC
- 5. Pac-12
- 6. American
- 7. Sun Belt
- 8. Conference USA
- 9. Mountain West
- 10. MAC
Will the SEC claim another title at the end of the year, or can Ohio State or a fellow B1G program dethrone the SEC?
