3 B1G teams crack Top 5 in ESPN's FPI rankings, 8 total in Top 25
Thanks to some big upsets in the college football world over the weekend, some B1G teams have moved up in ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) rankings.
Sunday, ESPN updated its FPI rankings following Week 4. There are now three B1G teams ranked inside the top five according to the formula, led by Ohio State at No. 1. Wisconsin comes in at No. 4 and Penn State rounds it out at No. 5. Obviously, none of the teams in the conference have played a game yet.
Alabama is at No. 2 after a blowout win over Missouri and Clemson sits at No. 3 with a 2-0 record, despite being off this weekend. Oklahoma and LSU both fell out of the top 10 following upset losses to Kansas State and Mississippi State, respectively.
Here’s a look at the B1G teams that are still ranked inside the FPI’s top 25:
- No. 1: Ohio State
- No. 4: Wisconsin
- No. 5: Penn State
- No. 15: Michigan
- No. 18: Indiana
- No. 22: Northwestern
- No. 24: Iowa
- No. 25: Minnesota
Because the FPI ranks every single FBS team, here’s a look at where the six B1G teams not inside the top 25 fell in the latest rankings:
- No. 31: Nebraska
- No. 47: Purdue
- No. 48: Illinois
- No. 60: Michigan State
- No. 65: Rutgers
- No. 72: Maryland
