Making the jump from high school football to the collegiate ranks is never easy, but some players handle the transition better than others. And whether it’s related to opportunity or preparation, some true freshmen are able to make the jump into immediate playing time in college.

Coming out of Week 7, 247 Sports analyst Chris Hummer has compiled his true freshman All-American squad at the midseason point. That All-American squad featured 4 players from the B1G.

Offense

  • RB Nick Singleton, Penn State

Defense

  • Edge Gabe Jacas, Illinois
  • LB Jaishawn Barham, Maryland
  • LB Dasan McCullough, Indiana

Singleton has quickly established himself as an explosive, breakaway runner for the Nittany Lions. He currently leads Penn State with 482 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns and is a home run threat every time he touches the ball.

Jacas is tied for the team lead at Illinois with 4 sacks and has added 4 TFL. Barham is second on Maryland in total tackles with 35 and TFL with 4.5 while leading the Terrapins with 3 sacks.

McCullough is a versatile defender and has contributed in multiple facets for the Hoosiers. He leads Indiana with 4 sacks, has 5 TFL and 2 pass breakups to go with 28 total tackles.

We’ll see how these young stars stack up at the end of the 2022 season.
