The Ray Guy Award was created by the August Sports Council in 2000 to honor Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame punter Ray Guy. In addition to punting average, number of punts downed or kicked out of bounds inside opponent’s 20-yard line, total yardage punted and other statistics are taken into account.
Team leadership, self-discipline and positive impact on their team’s success is also a factor in the evaluation of a winner.
