We’ve hit that sweet spot of the college football season. The point when teams can’t really afford to have an off week as conference positioning becomes more and more important.

It makes for some really entertaining football.

Saturday should provide B1G fans with some interesting games and quality storylines at the midway point of the season. Michigan State could be eliminated from B1G contention on Saturday. Maybe Nebraska gets its first win of the season. Iowa or Indiana will get one step closer to bowl eligibility.

And the one thing everyone will be watching: will Michigan or Wisconsin escape with a win in the evening? To the victor goes a huge resumé-boosting win. The loser is eliminated from College Football Playoff consideration.

Yeah, this should be fun.

But before we get set for the Week 7 kickoff, let’s take a dive into some bold predictions for an exciting week of B1G football.

Nebraska gets its first win of the Scott Frost era

It has to come at some point, right? Ryan Field isn’t an overly intimidating place to play, especially for Nebraska. The Huskers have won on each of their last three visits to Evanston. And with Adrian Martinez and the offense getting a little more in sync, they’re bound to catch someone off guard. Northwestern has had trouble closing out games this season. Look for Nebraska to get a win in exciting fashion.

Dwayne Haskins reaches 30 touchdown passes

Even if Antoine Winfield Jr. was in the lineup for Minnesota, I’m not sure it would be able to slow down Haskins and the Buckeyes offense. This should be another laugher in Columbus, one that nets the Ohio State quarterback five more touchdown passes and probably another B1G Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Penn State rushes for more than 100 yards vs. Michigan State

If there’s one positive about Michigan State’s season thus far, it’s that the run defense has been outstanding. Unfortunately, the Spartans haven’t played anyone with an offense as explosive as Penn State. Trace McSorley and Miles Sanders will rack up yardage on the ground and the MSU defense will surrender its first 100-yard rushing game of the year. Oh, and the score will probably be a little lopsided in favor of the Lions, too.

Jonathan Taylor doesn’t hit the century mark vs. Michigan

He’s done it every week in his sophomore season, but Don Brown’s defense is going to be ready for Taylor and Wisconsin’s rushing attack. Taylor can still be effective in the game, but I don’t think he’s going to hit triple digits. The Wolverines are too good up front.

We’ll have a three-way tie for first in the B1G West

Basically I’m giving away my picks for Week 7. But here’s what I see happening this weekend:

  • Michigan defeats Wisconsin
  • Nebraska defeats Northwestern
  • Iowa defeats Indiana
  • Purdue defeats Illinois

That means that Wisconsin, Iowa and Purdue would all have a 2-1 record in B1G play at the end of the weekend and Northwestern would be sitting at 2-2. Yes, it would mean the Badgers’ College Football Playoff hopes were crushed, but hey, it’d be an interesting race in the West the rest of the way.
