6 B1G teams land in top 25 of final SP+ rankings for 2022 season
The 2022 college football season is all wrapped up, and it is once again Georgia sitting atop the country as national champions.
Throughout the season, a number of teams vied for the top spot and stood poised as contenders. Out of the B1G, Michigan and Ohio State gave the conference two teams in the College Football Playoff, but both fell short in the semifinals.

With the season wrapped up, the SP+ system developed by ESPN’s Bill Connelly has released its final rankings for the 2022 season. To no surprise, the undefeated Bulldogs claimed the top spot, but the rest of the top 5 yielded some interesting results.
The No. 2 spot was not claimed by any Playoff team, including TCU, the unfortunate recipient of the title game blowout. Instead, Nick Saban’s Alabama squad landed at No. 2 with a pair of losses while Michigan, Ohio State and Tennessee rounded out the top 5. The Horned Frogs landed at No. 8 on the final SP+ rankings.
In total, 6 B1G teams cracked the top 25 on the final rankings:
- 3. Michigan
- 4. Ohio State
- 6. Penn State
- 16. Minnesota
- 21. Illinois
- 23. Iowa
FINAL SP+ RANKINGS. Georgia basically ties 2020 Bama for the best recent national champ, while TCU falls to 8th.
The title game was so resounding that basically every SEC team rose and every Big 12 team fell. Good times.https://t.co/Xm2wDX5KCw
