The award is named for the late legendary college basketball coach Lute Olson, who was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. Olson is best remembered for his time at Arizona, where he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997. Prior to Arizona, Olson spent 9 seasons at Iowa. He won 167 games and led the Hawkeyes to the Final Four in 1980.

The winner will be announced on Friday, April 1 in New Orleans, the site of the 2022 NCAA Tournament Final Four.
