The first full week of B1G basketball is in the books. While some teams had played league games a little earlier, this past week was full of conference action, providing us with some early standings for the 2020-21 season.

And, of course, there are a few surprises.

Leading the way is Northwestern, which sits with a perfect 3-0 record and is all alone atop the B1G standings. The Wildcats have defeated No. 12 Michigan State, Indiana and No. 23 Ohio State to get their first three victories. Overall, Northwestern is 6-1 with the only blemish being a 71-70 loss to Pitt in the B1G-ACC Challenge.

The other surprise is Michigan State, which is currently sitting at the bottom of the league with an 0-2 mark. The Spartans have suffered losses to Northwestern and No. 9 Wisconsin for their worst start in conference play since the 2006-07 season. Overall, MSU is 6-2.

Here’s a complete rundown with every team in the B1G playing at least two games, and some playing as many as four:

  • No. 1: Northwestern (3-0)
  • No. 2: Michigan (2-0)
  • No. 2: Wisconsin (2-0)
  • No. 4: Illinois (3-1)
  • No. 5: Rutgers (2-1)
  • No. 5: Purdue (2-1)
  • No. 7: Minnesota (1-1)
  • No. 7: Iowa (1-1)
  • No. 9: Ohio State (1-2)
  • No. 10: Indiana (0-2)
  • No. 10: Michigan State (0-2)
  • No. 10: Maryland (0-2)
  • No. 10: Nebraska (0-2)
  • No. 10: Penn State (0-2)

Five teams — Indiana, Michigan State, Maryland, Nebraska and Penn State — are still awaiting their first wins in the B1G this season.

There are no B1G games on Sunday. Action will resume on Monday, when Maryland takes on Wisconsin and Michigan State will play Minnesota. We’ll see how much these standings change next week.
