Sam Hartman is the starting quarterback at Wake Forest. During the 2021 season, he finished second in the ACC with 39 touchdown passes and third in passing yards with 4,228.

After that showing last season and an 11-win season, Hartman and the Demon Deacons had serious expectations for 2022. Unfortunately, it appears Hartman will likely be sidelined for a major portion of the season.

The program revealed Wednesday morning that Hartman would be sidelined with a “non-football related medical condition”:

Hartman and coach Dave Clawson both issued statements about the news:

Now, it will be interesting to see who lines up under center when Wake Forest starts the 2022 season. The first game for the Demon Deacons is set for Thursday, Sept. 1 against VMI.

Hopefully, Hartman’s medical issue is cleared quickly and he can return to the field in 2022. The QB has been setting records for Wake Forest and is a key piece for the program.
