While there’s still an incredible amount of uncertainty regarding the sports world as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to overwhelm the United States, ESPN’s Adam Schefter did have a positive report for college football fans on Thursday.

The ESPN reporter tweeted out that, after speaking with several people “in and around college football” there is a lot of optimism about the 2020 season being played. It may come with some alterations, but it sounds as though, in some way, shape or form, the season will commence.

“Speaking to people in and around college football this week, there is ‘strong conviction’ there will be college football this season,” Schefter said on Twitter. “Uncertainty about when — multiple scenarios being debated — but they sound certain there will be college football this season.”

There has been a large amount of speculation about the 2020 college football season, with some more optimistic than others. Right now, Schefter’s reporting is among the most optimistic right now, with others saying there’s a good chance the season is canceled.

It’s still impossible to know what will happen in the coming weeks and months, but with college football carrying so many financial implications, it’s likely that the NCAA, conference commissioners and school athletic directors will do whatever they can to fit the season in. Somehow.
