During Auburn’s Week 1 game on Saturday, they did something remarkable (and no, it wasn’t beating Akron).

The Tigers left 13 of their seats in Jordan-Hare Stadium empty to honor 13 soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan.

In the picture, there are soldiers standing next to the seats which have photos of those 13 soldiers who lost their lives.

Across the country, teams and fans have been focused and thankful for the return of full capacity stadiums. However, it is great to see Auburn set apart a small section for such a tremendous honor in the season opener.

With the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks this coming Saturday, Auburn could very well honor the people who lost their lives in a similar fashion. It’s likely that a lot of colleges around the nation will follow suit as well.

As for Auburn’s performance, they beat Akron 60-10 and quarterback DJ Irons finished 13-of-13 for 129 yards and a touchdown pass. Their next game will be another non-conference matchup against Alabama State at Noon ET this Saturday.
