B1G announces Players of the Week following Week 1 action

The B1G wrapped up a thrilling Week 1 of action Saturday evening, and the conference announced top performers from all the action Monday morning!
In Week 1, 13 teams from the conference were playing with Northwestern the lone team left on a bye week after playing in Week 0. The conference announced 5 Player of the Week winners for Week 1 across 5 different teams.
Co-Offensive Players of the Week
- RB Anthony Grant, Nebraska
- QB Sean Clifford, Penn State
On Thursday night, Clifford led the Nittany Lions on a thrilling comeback vs. Purdue. He accounted for all 5 touchdowns scored, including the game-winner with less than a minute to go on the road.
During Saturday’s action, Grant accounted for over 180 yards on the ground against North Dakota. He also scored 2 touchdowns and was a key performer for the Huskers avoiding a disappointing loss.

Defensive Player of the Week
- LB Jacoby Windmon, Michigan State
Windmon’s huge debut for the Spartans continues to draw rave reviews. He has already captured a number of honors, including the Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week award, after posting 4 sacks against Western Michigan.

Special Teams Player of the Week
- P Tory Taylor, Iowa
Taylor is not just the Special Teams Player of the Week, he was arguably the Hawkeye MVP from the Week 1 win over South Dakota State. He was called on for 10 punts and nearly accounted for 500 yards of punts in the win.
Taylor consistently pinned back the Jackrabbits with 2 punts eventually leading to safeties and 4 points for Iowa in the 7-3 win.

Freshman of the Week
- RB Roman Hemby, Maryland
Hemby had a breakout performance against Buffalo, accounting for over 100 yards on just 7 carries in Week 1. He scored 2 touchdowns, including one lightning strike from over 70 yards in Maryland’s win.
