When Maryland and Illinois meet on the gridiron this season, it’ll feel like Friday Night Lights.

Tuesday, the B1G announced that the date of the game between the Terrapins and Fighting Illini at Memorial Stadium in Champaign has been moved up one day. The two teams will now meet on Friday, Sept. 17. The game had previously been set for Saturday.

Kickoff time and broadcast coverage has yet to be announced. Typically, Friday night games in the B1G have aired on FOX, FS1 or Big Ten Network.

“We are very excited to be in a national prime time spot for our Maryland game,” said Illinois head coach Bret Bielema. “It is another opportunity to showcase our team, university, campus and the best fans in college football. I-L-L!”

The B1G has utilized the Friday night prime time slot as a way to get more exposure and increase audiences for specific games on the schedule. While the league does not have a Friday night game each week, there are a handful of matchups dedicated to Friday nights each season.

The Sept. 17 showdown will be Maryland’s first-ever trip to Illinois.
