B1G Bowl projections, Week 5: Holding steady
Saturday was fairly predictable in the Big Ten, with each of the conference’s six ranked teams defeating their unranked opponents on Saturday.
Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa and Michigan showed no mercy against undermanned opponents. Michigan State was tied with Indiana in the final seconds until winning by nine. Wisconsin was good enough but not great in its win over Northwestern. The Badgers got two defensive touchdowns and took a 24-3 lead before Northwestern closed the final margin to nine.
The national picture did not really change much either as only two ranked teams lost to unranked teams. Clemson’s near-defeat against North Carolina raised a few eyebrows but the defending national champion Tigers survived.
These projections are based on where we think teams will wind up in December, not where they are now. Ohio State is a really solid candidate for the College Football Playoff but for now, sadly, we project that the Big Ten will be frozen out again. (Hint: Root for Texas to beat Oklahoma on Oct. 12.)
Now, on to our B1G bowl projections, in the conference’s approximate bowl selection order:
