The sporting world has been rocked with a number of announcements on Thursday.

It started earlier in the day with the major conferences announcing the cancellation of their remaining conference tournament games. The Big East even canceled its games at halftime of a contest between Creighton and St. John’s.

That situation took another step with the NCAA announcing that the 2020 men’s and women’s basketball tournaments would be canceled as opposed to postponed. Along with that, the remaining winter and spring championships were also canceled.

Now, the B1G has followed that announcement by also canceling all spring competitions through the end of the academic year. This includes all conference and non-conference competitions and any spring sports that compete beyond the end of the academic year.

Off the field, the B1G is also suspending all on- and off-campus recruiting activities “for the foreseeable future.” It remains to be seen when that moratorium will be lifted, but it does not sound like any time soon.
