While conference realignment is one of the topics on the mind of B1G commissioner Kevin Warren, there’s also the discussion about the future of the College Football Playoff.

Of course, the Playoff hasn’t moved from 4 teams since its introduction in 2014. But while the committee has announced that things will remain the same through the remainder of its contract with ESPN after the 2025 season, that hasn’t stopped talk of what form the CFP will take after that.

One of the most commonly talked about ideas is a 16-team setup, with Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith telling ESPN at B1G Media Days on Tuesday that the proposal “just seems to be out there” and that “you can’t ignore it”.

Warren gave his own thoughts to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.

“It’s heavy on my radar. Someone had raised it to me probably about six months ago, and then over the last couple weeks, it’s been raised a lot,” he said.

It appears, at least for now, that an expanded Playoff is in the cards heading into the 2026 season. What form it will take looks to be the only question.
