There are big decisions, and I know everyone in this room takes them very seriously. These aren’t things that we enter into lightly… I never took any of our decisions or the stops and starts (personally).
…Today proves that we work together well and I’m confident we’ll work together as we go forward in the future.
The announcement to expand the CFP comes a day after the Rose Bowl agreed to modify its current contract for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
This expansion is expected to produce around $450 million in additional revenue for conferences and schools that are included in the playoff teams.
The first round of the new playoff in 2024 will take place the week ending Saturday, Dec. 21. Exact dates are still to be determined.
The championship game for the 2024 season will be played in Atlanta on Jan. 20, 2025, its second time hosting. The 2025 season title will be played in Miami Gardens, Fl., in Jan. 2026, also for its second time hosting.
