B1G commissioner Kevin Warren once fought to guarantee automatic bids for each Power 5 champion at the end of the season.

Now, as B1G media days draws to a close, Warren is starting to change his stance.

“I’m going to soften my stance on it,” Warren told The Athletic, via On3 Sports. “I just feel like we have to give some credit for conference regular-season success. Now, whatever that looks like, I don’t know.”

This news comes after UCLA and USC were welcomed into the B1G. It is possible that Warren’s stance changed because it is certainly more favorable for a conference like the B1G to see more programs in the running for a national title if an expansion to an 8-team or 16-team College Football Playoff is to be implemented in the coming years.
