The SEC can talk all it wants about dominating college football, but in this year’s USA TODAY Preseason Coaches Poll, it was the B1G that’s leading the pack.

With seven teams ranked in the Top 25, the B1G has more teams inside the USA TODAY Coaches Poll than any other conference in the sport. The SEC has six teams and the Pac-12 has five. There are three ranked teams in the Big 12 and two more in the ACC.

Notre Dame got in as an independent and UCF was the lone Group of Five squad.

Here’s where those seven B1G teams ranked:

  • No. 5: Ohio State
  • No. 7: Michigan
  • No. 14: Penn State
  • No. 17: Wisconsin
  • No. 19: Iowa
  • No. 20: Michigan State
  • No. 25: Northwestern

Nebraska and Minnesota were also in the mix of several other schools to receive votes for the early preseason poll.

It is a preseason poll, primarily representing how the previous year finished and what to expect for the upcoming fall. Usually these things change pretty drastically throughout the course of the season.

There’s a lot of belief that the B1G will have the deepest league in college football, though. That’s a good sign for the conference.
