On Thursday, the B1G has announced what will happen to games canceled due to COVID-19 positives.

After initially canceling and then reinstating a fall season, the number of weeks available with which to play a season was greatly reduced. As a result, the B1G is planning to play nine games in nine weeks: an 8-game schedule with an additional crossover game between divisions at the end.

That setup guaranteed that if any game is canceled due to COVID-19, it will not be rescheduled during the season. And according to Matt Wenzel with MLive.com, the B1G has also declared that canceled games will be declared “no-contest” which means no team will register a win or a loss as a result.

As part of the re-start, the conference put in a more stringent set of guidelines that will dictate when teams are unable to compete:

There are categories (green, orange and red) associated with teams based on rolling seven-day averages. If a team positivity rate (number of positive tests divided by total number of tests administered) exceeds 5 percent or its population positivity rate (number of positive individuals divided by total population at risk) is more than 7.5 percent, the program can’t practice or play in a game for at least seven days.

Along with the no-contest announcement, the B1G also updated divisional tiebreakers. As a part of the tiebreakers, the B1G announced that teams must complete at least six games to be eligible for the B1G Championship Game.

Hopefully the delay and improved testing protocols will help the B1G finish the regular season without major issues.
