B1G names basketball Players of the Week
The B1G has announced the weekly winners of conference Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week.
Maryland guard Anthony Cowan Jr. was named the B1G Player of the Week and Michigan’s Franz Wagner was mentioned as the B1G Freshman of the Week. Both the Terrapins and Wolverines went 2-0 this past week on the hardwood.
Cowan recorded a double-double in Maryland’s 72-70 victory over Nebraska last Tuesday, scoring 13 points and dishing 10 assists in the victory. On Saturday, the star guard scored the final 11 points on the road against Michigan State, leading the Terrapins to a come-from-behind win over the Spartans. He ended the night with 24 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Maryland has now won eight straight games and is ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press poll. The Terps own a one-game lead in the B1G standings.
Wagner scored just five points in Michigan’s 79-54 victory over Northwestern on the road, but grabbed five rebounds and had four assists. He was much better in Sunday’s 89-65 win over Indiana on Sunday, finishing the game with 16 points and eight rebounds, making 7-of-11 baskets.
Michigan improved to 16-9 on the season.
