The latest B1G Players of the Week have been named.

Illinois’ freshman Kofi Cockburn and Maryland sophomore Jalen Smith have received the honors this week after stellar performances on the court. Cockburn earned the league’s Freshman of the Week honors while Smith was named the Player of the Week.

Cockburn’s week was highlighted by a great night on the road at Mackey Arena against Purdue. He finished the night with 22 points and 15 rebounds in Illinois’ 79-62 victory over Purdue. It was the first time the Illini had won in West Lafayette in 11 seasons and it was Cockburn’s eighth double-double of the year.

He followed that performance up by scoring five points and grabbing three rebounds against Michigan, a game Illinois won 64-62 in Ann Arbor to finish the week 2-0.

Smith finished the week averaging a double-double, posting an average of 27 points and 11 rebounds per game in Maryland’s two road victories over Northwestern and Indiana.

On Tuesday, Smith scored 25 points and collected 11 boards in a 77-66 victory over Northwestern. On Saturday, Smith piled up 29 points and grabbed another 11 rebounds against the Hoosiers. His basket with 16 seconds left in the contest proved to be the game-winner in a 77-76 win.

Smith shot 10-of-14 against the Hoosiers.
