After what Penn State coach James Franklin said about point spreads last week, did you think we were going to just stop talking about them?

Of course not.

Point spreads — even if you aren’t interested in betting — serve a purpose. Are they the end-all-be-all to determine a team’s performance? Certainly not. But they do give the general expectation. That’s worth something.

As we look at the B1G spreads, you’ll notice that No. 4 Michigan State, which has yet to cover all season, is only favored by two touchdowns against Rutgers. That, and the fact that Northwestern is down to a 7.5-point dog against Michigan after the initial spread was 12, is most noteworthy.

Here are the B1G lines, according to Westgate:

Maryland vs. No. 1 Ohio State (-33)

Indiana vs. Penn State (-7.5)

Illinois vs. No. 22 Iowa (-10.5)

Minnesota (-3) vs. Purdue

Wisconsin vs. Nebraska (-1)

No. 13 Northwestern vs. No. 18 Michigan (-7.5)

No. 4 Michigan State (-14) vs. Rutgers
