Wisconsin Badgers Athletic Director Barry Alvarez dropped some big news earlier this afternoon about when the Big Ten matchup for Champions weekend (Dec. 19) will be announced.

It looks like the matchups will be announced this coming Sunday, according to Badgers reporter Jeff Potrykus:

That will only give teams like Wisconsin 6 days to prepare for their opponent which is an interesting decision from the Big Ten.

Some people figured they’d announce them a lot sooner, including Penn State head coach James Franklin. He’s not a happy camper when it comes to all the uncertainties with the matchups.

Matchups were initially thought to be cross-divisional and determined by record, but the conference may end up adjusting that idea to get back canceled rivalry games like Wisconsin-Minnesota. The Big Ten is also hoping to avoid repeat matchups in Week 9.

Before the Badgers opponent is announced, they’ll have a date with No. 16 Iowa this Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.ET. The game will be televised by FS1.
