B1G football has had an outstanding year with two teams representing the conference in the College Football Playoff. As the B1G basketball season is starting to heat up coaches like Ryan Day were asked who is the best “hooper” on their team.

The B1G is one of the few conferences that has players for multiple sports representing the conference at a high-level.

Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz gave the first answer with Kaevon Merriweather, a senior defensive back, as the team’s best shooter mentioning his high school basketball career being as good if not better than his football career.

Michigan State’s Mel Tucker named Keon Coleman as the obvious choice with him playing for the Spartans in both sports last season.

Ryan Day went with Dawand Jones who left Indiana to become the Buckeye’s starting right tackle despite his dreams to become a basketball player. Jones stands at 6-foot-8, 320 pounds and unfortunately had to hang up the sneakers.

Illinois’ Keith Randolph Jr., Rutgers’ Max Melton, Indiana’s Connor Bazelak, Northwestern’s Caleb Tiernan, Minnesota’s Dylan Wright, Maryland’s Corey Dyches, and Penn State’s Tyler Warren were some of the players mentioned.

Both B1G basketball and football look to make a statement by competing for championships. Do you agree with their picks?
