In today’s college football, you have to have a good quarterback to be successful. It’s the most important position in all of sports for a reason.

Heading into the 2021 season, there are plenty of B1G teams with experienced guys under center. Nine teams will have their primary starter from last year back taking snaps this fall. But which teams are in the best position to find success?

We broke down which quarterbacks in the B1G have the best, and worst, winning percentages while at their current schools. No quarterback has more wins under his belt than Minnesota’s Tanner Morgan, who has posted an 18-8 record over the past three seasons.

In winning percentage, Indiana’s Michael Penix Jr. has a sizable advantage, posting a 10-2 mark in 12 starts over the last two years.

Here’s a look at how it breaks down among the nine starters (minimum 5 games and records only count from current school):

  • Michael Penix Jr., Indiana: 10-2 (.833)
  • Spencer Petras, Iowa: 6-2 (.750)
  • Sean Clifford, Penn State: 14-6 (.700)
  • Tanner Morgan, Minnesota: 18-8 (.692)
  • Graham Mertz, Wisconsin: 4-3 (.571)
  • Brandon Peters, Illinois: 7-9 (.438)
  • Adrian Martinez, Nebraska: 11-16 (.407)
  • Noah Vedral, Rutgers: 2-5 (.286)
  • Jack Plummer, Purdue: 2-6 (.250)

Maryland’s Taulia Tagovailoa was the primary started last season but only appeared in four games for the Terrapins.

Experience matters in the B1G and prior success will play a big role in how this season shakes out. It should be interesting to see which QBs step up in 2021
