The Big 12 has fined Texas Tech after fans stormed the field following the win over Texas on Saturday.

The Red Raiders won the in-state rivalry on a game-winning field goal, and fans celebrated by clearing the stands and going down on the field.

While it might have been fun for the students and fans, the university has to pay. The Big 12 is fining Texas Tech $50,000, according to On3 Sports.

Big 12 Commissioner Brent Yorkman said in a statement Monday that the Red Raiders’ athletic department “failed in ensuring the safety and security” of the people on the field, including a Texas player who was pushed by a Texas Tech fan. Yorkman said that Texas Tech’s even management policy was well thought out, but was unsuccessful on Saturday.

“There is zero tolerance for any act that compromises the safety of game participants,” Yorkman said. “And it is of utmost importance that home game management provide adequate security measures for our student-athletes, coaches, game officials and spectators.”
