Kansas State’s loss to Arkansas State wasn’t just heartbreaking for the Wildcats players, coaches and fans on Saturday, it was devastating to the bank account of a big-time bettor.

According to Darren Rovell of Action Network, one bettor placed $65,000 on Kansas State to defeat Arkansas State straight up — not requiring the Wildcats to cover the spread but merely win the game. But when time expired, the Red Wolves were ahead on the scoreboard 35-31.

Had Kansas State won the game, the bettor would have received $13,000. Instead, he loses all $65,000.

The bet looked good for awhile in Manhattan, as Kansas State jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the first half. But a 21-0 run from Arkansas State gave the Red Wolves an advantage for the first time on the afternoon. The two teams continued to battle into the fourth quarter.

K-State took a 31-28 lead late in the game, but Arkansas State answered with a go-ahead touchdown with less than 30 seconds on the clock. The Wildcats had one last opportunity to score a game-winning touchdown, but the final pass fell incomplete.

This should serve as a friendly reminder that there are no guarantees in sports.
