All right. Who predicted a 9-OT, top-10 upset this week?

That was the story of the Week 8 B1G slate as Illinois stunned No. 7 Penn State 20-18 in 9 — yes, 9 — overtimes in State College. On the other end of the spectrum, No. 5 Ohio State ran circles around Indiana to win, 54-7. This week had a little bit of everything.

Here’s where each team’s record prediction stands after Week 8:

Iowa — 11-1

The Hawkeyes had a bye week.

Illinois — 4-8

It was without question Illinois’ best performance of the year. The Illini, led by a strong run game, fought off Penn State in 9OT, 20-18. If there was any question about whether Bret Bielema lost the locker room, it was answered.

Now, let’s see if they can’t turn this into something. But given the strength of the schedule, it’s still going to be an up-and-down year.

Indiana — 4-8

Yikes. Indiana got run out of its own stadium against Ohio State this week. Given the injury to Jack Tuttle — on top of the injury to Michael Penix Jr. — we’ll have to see how things go the rest of the way. If Tuttle’s injury is serious, this prediction will change.

Maryland — 7-5

The Terps struggled against Minnesota and its tough rushing attack. After a 4-0 start, they’re back to .500 ball. Can Taulia Tagovailoa turn it around? The schedule looks pretty friendly.

Michigan — 9-3

The first half wasn’t great, but Michigan turned it around to beat Northwestern, 33-7, at The Big House this week. But a big test looms next week as the Wolverines head to East Lansing to face Michigan State. Make sure you watch that one.

Michigan State — 9-3

The Spartans were off this week.

Minnesota — 8-4

The Golden Gophers continue to roll, cruising past Maryland this week. Tanner Morgan is looking more and more comfortable in an offense without Mo Ibrahim and Trey Potts at running back. That could be dangerous down the stretch.

Nebraska — 5-7

Nebraska was on a bye this week.

Northwestern — 4-8

After a big win over Rutgers last week, the Wildcats put up quite a fight against Michigan. But the cream rose to the top, and it was another lopsided loss for Northwestern. Under .500 seems like a safe bet the rest of the way.

Ohio State — 11-1

Please. Stop asking questions about Ohio State. TreVeyon Henderson, CJ Stroud & Co. are doing work. Watch out, CFP. Here come the Buckeyes.

Penn State — 8-4

Well. That was unexpected. Penn State — in NINE overtimes — lost to Illinois in State College. Where do the Nittany Lions go from here? Not the top 10. Still, they’re still one of the top teams in the B1G.

Purdue — 4-8

Remember when Purdue jumped into the Top 25 last week? That was fun while it lasted. The Boilermakers, a week after beating then-No. 2 Iowa, struggled against Wisconsin in a 30-13 loss. It seems Jeff Brohm’s group has come back to earth.

Rutgers — 5-7

Rutgers was on a bye this week.

Wisconsin — 6-6

Has Wisconsin found its offense? It sure looks like it as the run game — and the defense — carried the Badgers to a 30-13 win over Purdue. If they can work in some semblance of a passing game, they could play spoiler in a wild B1G West.
