Big Ten Power Rankings following Week 11
Big Ten Power Rankings are getting updated once again as we clear Week 11 of the college football season! Before you know it, we will breeze through the final 3 weeks of the regular season and move into the new era of the 12-team Playoff.
For now, the race to Indianapolis and the Big Ten Championship Game is in full focus, and there are still a handful of scenarios that could play out. DraftKings still has undefeated Oregon at -105 in the latest B1G Championship odds with Ohio State close behind at +115 in spite of the Buckeyes’ loss to the Ducks.
Indiana, still undefeated, trails Ohio State at +1000 to win the B1G, but that likely has to do with the fact the Hoosiers and Buckeyes face each other before the end of the season. Fans can check out the latest odds and offers with Tradition’s DraftKings Ohio promo code.
For now, the top 4 spots on Tradition’s B1G Power Rankings remain unchanged as we head into the final stretch of the regular season. Let’s get to the full list!
18. Purdue (1-8)
Last week: at Ohio State, L 45-0
There’s no sugarcoating things. Purdue has been shut out twice in the past 3 games. The Boilermakers have 4 games this season with 7 points or less. If not for a period of monumental change for the sport, it would probably be an early exit for Ryan Walters.
17. Northwestern (4-5)
Last week: BYE
16. Rutgers (5-4)
Last week: vs. Minnesota, W 26-19
Where has this team been hiding in the middle portion of the season? The Scarlet Knights stepped up to stop the run in a major way vs. Minnesota, and Athan Kaliakmanis hit on some big plays with 3 touchdowns in the win. But the big key was a defensive clinic at taking away the ball and harassing the QB in the final 8 and a half minutes of the game.
15. USC (4-5)
Last week: BYE
14. Maryland (4-5)
Last week: at Oregon, L 39-18
Believe it or not, Maryland was still in the thick of Saturday’s game against Oregon in the fourth quarter. The Terrapins were trailing by 11 points but had just gotten the ball back with a chance to make it a one-possession game. Unfortunately, 2 late interceptions and 3 total turnovers from Billy Edwards Jr. doomed Maryland.
13. Michigan State (4-5)
Last week: BYE
12. Nebraska (5-4)
Last week: BYE
11. UCLA (4-5)
Last week: vs. Iowa, W 20-17
UCLA continues to look like the most improved team in the country, even as Ethan Garbers struggled with 2 interceptions. After Iowa’s 10 early points off those turnovers, the Bruins outscored the Hawkeyes 20-7 the rest of the way with 3 takeaways of their own. It is still a longshot, but I would no longer rule UCLA entirely out of a bowl game.
10. Michigan (5-5)
Last week: at Indiana, L 20-15
Saturday’s performance was Michigan’s best example of any in-game adjustments yet this season. The Wolverines were able to give Indiana’s offensive line fits on the defensive side of the ball. Unfortunately, the Michigan offense was unable to mount consistent drives or even cash in on short-field opportunities. The Wolverines still need 1 win from the final 2 games to get to conventional bowl eligibility.
9. Wisconsin (5-4)
Last week: BYE
8. Washington (5-5)
Last week: at Penn State, L 35-6
Washington’s hot-and-cold performances continued in Week 10, but it’s clear that the Huskies are a different team on the road away from Seattle. The good news is Jedd Fisch’s team does get one more game at home this season, and the other game on the road is at least on the West Coast. We’ll see if that makes a difference.
7. Illinois (6-3)
Last week: BYE
6. Minnesota (6-4)
Last week: at Rutgers, L 26-19
Darius Taylor was absolutely shut down by Rutgers, failing to even reach 30 yards of offense in this one. Even with his struggles, the Golden Gophers entered the final 8 and a half minutes with a lead and a chance to put this one away. Some horrific miscues, including a safety by Max Brosmer, doomed the final outcome in this one.
5. Iowa (6-4)
Last week: at UCLA, L 20-17
What a difference a week makes. After a flawless outing against Wisconsin, backup QB turned starter Brendan Sullivan committed 3 turnovers after some early successes. An even bigger issue, UCLA completely stuffed Kaleb Johnson, holding the RB to just 49 yards and 2.7 yards per carry.
4. Penn State (8-1)
Last week: vs. Washington, W 35-6
Penn State still has an Ohio State problem, but the Nittany Lions do not have a problem bouncing back. James Franklin’s teams can still win the games they are supposed to. That’s a good sign for getting into the Playoff. What happens after that is a different story.
3. Indiana (10-0)
Last week: vs. Michigan, W 20-15
As Curt Cignetti so eloquently put it, there aren’t many style points in this one. But no one should care a lick about that right now. The Hoosiers have a strong shot at reaching the Playoff. That alone is a minor miracle, and anything beyond that is pure gravy.
2. Ohio State (8-1)
Last week: vs. Purdue, W 45-0
Ohio State came off the emotional win vs. Penn State and simply went right to work vs. Purdue. The Boilermakers did have a chance for a couple of close field goals, but only one of those drives was truly worrisome early on. Now, Ryan Day’s staff can spend a week torturing themselves with thoughts of having to play at Wrigley Field next weekend.
1. Oregon (10-0)
Last week: vs. Maryland, W 39-18
The final score may not reflect it, but this was far from a smooth win by Dan Lanning’s squad. The good news is the Ducks pushed all the right buttons to create some separation and put things away late. Dillon Gabriel is also the king of FBS touchdowns, and Oregon’s path to a first-round bye in the Playoff remains clear.
