Big Ten reveals Players of the Week following Week 3 results
Big Ten awards are being dished out for the Week 3 slate of games.
Though key teams at the top of the conference were idle this weekend, the full slate was not short on action. That includes Indiana winning the first Big Ten conference game in the history of the Rose Bowl and Oregon rounding into form with a blowout of Oregon State.
As we brace for Week 4, here are the weekly honors handed out by the B1G:
Offensive Player of the Week
- QB Kurtis Rourke, Indiana
Rourke sliced up UCLA in an efficient 25-of-33 passing effort for 307 yards and 4 touchdowns without an interception. His 300 passing yards are the most from a Hoosier since 2022. Rourke’s 3rd-down numbers were flawless while going 9-for-9 with 128 yards.
Defensive Player of the Week
- DB Dante Trader Jr., Maryland
Trader tied his career-high mark with 11 total tackles in the 27-13 win over Virginia. He also delivered an interception and a pass breakup as the Terrapins held the Cavs to 0 points and 82 yards of offense in the 2nd half.
Special Teams Player of the Week
- K Atticus Sappington, Oregon
Sappington was a major force in Oregon’s blowout win over Oregon State, converting on all 7 of his kicks (2-for-2 on field goals) to produce 11 points in the 49-14 victory. He also served as the kickoff man for the Ducks with 5 touchbacks in 8 kickoffs.
Freshman of the Week
- DB Kerry Brown, Minnesota
Brown secured the first 2 interceptions of his career during Minnesota’s shutout win over Nevada. He is the first Gopher freshman with multiple interceptions in a game since 1990, and both of Brown’s interceptions led to 10 points in the game.
