Big Ten wrestling is heating up as the calendar gets ready to flip to February.

BTN analyst Shane Sparks is keyed into all of the wrestling action throughout the B1G. Late Monday evening, he put out his latest Monday Medal Stand to honor the standout performers from the previous week.

At the top as Sparks’ gold medal winner is Penn State’s Roman Bravo-Young. Bravo-Young is the nation’s top-ranked wrestler at 133 pounds and came up with a crucial pin in the win vs. Iowa.

“Big-time wrestlers step up in big times. He did that on Friday vs. Iowa, pinned Brody Teske late in the third period to ignite the Nittany Lions past the Hawkeyes,” explained Sparks. “Penn State has now won 39 straight dual meets, largely in part to their hammer at 133 (pounds).”

The silver medal on Sparks’ stand went to Ohio State true freshman Jesse Mendez at 133 pounds. Mendez delivered some big moments for the Buckeyes, recording wins against Michigan’s Dylan Ragusin and Michigan State’s Rayvon Foley.

Bringing up the bronze spot on Sparks’ weekly medal stand was Northwestern’s Troy Fisher at 175 pounds after a big-time rally.
