There was a little bit of controversy the occurred earlier this week when the College Football Playoff selection committee revealed its latest rankings. Despite an undefeated record with a Top 10 victory over Indiana, Ohio State was ranked No. 4, one spot behind one-loss Clemson.

Joel Klatt believes he has an explanation for that.

While Ohio State is still the favorite to win the B1G and earn a spot in the College Football Playoff at the end of the year, Ohio State hasn’t been as crisp all around as it was a season ago. Those issues have particularly come on the defensive side of the football.

Klatt says that Ohio State needs to improve in pass coverage, and it’s a reason he believes that Clemson is still ranked above the Buckeyes in the latest rankings. The FOX college football analyst did a deep dive into the issues in a video shared by CFB on FOX.

Ohio State has struggled to put together a full four-quarter game. Despite defeating Penn State and Rutgers by double figures earlier this season, both teams gave the Buckeyes fits in the second half of both games.

In last weekend’s win over Indiana, the Buckeyes blew a 28-point lead and Indiana had a chance to tie the game in the final minutes in Columbus.

So, while Ohio State still has an overwhelming amount of talent and is still a potential threat to win the title this year, there are some question marks. We’ll see if those get addressed in the coming weeks.
