After a strong start to training camp, Bo Nix is the betting favorite to win the starting quarterback job in Denver.

Nix, a former Oregon standout, is -200 to win the job according to the latest odds at FanDuel. Jarrett Stidham, who started 2 games for the Broncos last season, is +154 to be named Denver’s Week 1 starter. Zach Wilson is a long-shot candidate at +7000.

Nix was listed as the team’s third-string quarterback on its first official depth chart, which was released earlier this week.

The Broncos selected Nix with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, making him the 5th quarterback to go off the board. Head coach Sean Payton raved about Nix’s pre-draft process and expressed excitement about getting him with the 12th pick.

Broncos offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi was also complimentary of Nix when talking with reporters this week. Lombardi said Nix has been “everything we hoped for” and then shared some details of the progress he’s made in his first offseason as a pro.

“I think it’s just comfort level with just the operation,” Lombardi said of where Nix has made the biggest strides. “He’s really instinctive and so playing football has been good from jump. It’s just getting the huddle calls, some of the checks at the line of scrimmage. The more you see that, the better you get and he’s just getting more comfortable.”

Nix has yet to make his NFL preseason debut. The Broncos will play their first preseason game of the year on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Payton has already announced that Stidham will start the preseason affair against Indianapolis, but Nix is expected to come in second.

While the betting markets are expecting Nix to win the starting job out of camp, they aren’t as high on Nix’s ability to produce immediately — at least not compared to his peers. Nix is +2000 to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, per FanDuel. That’s tied for the 6th-best odds. Nix is also +480 to lead all rookies in passing yards during the regular season.
