It’s never too early to fire up a B1G Championship debate.

Last year, Michigan State surprised the oddsmakers by taking down Ohio State in the regular season. The Spartans obviously won a thriller against Iowa in the B1G Championship.

Will another non-favorite win the league title again?

That won’t be decided for another five months, but the conversation already began. Bovada released its updated odds for the 2016 B1G Championship. Not surprisingly, Michigan and Ohio State got the most likely odds.

Here are the odds for every B1G team to win the league title:

  • Michigan, 1.75-1
  • Ohio State, 1.75-1
  • Michigan State, 7-1
  • Iowa, 9-1
  • Nebraska, 9-1
  • Wisconsin, 14-1
  • Penn State, 18-1
  • Northwestern, 33-1
  • Minnesota, 40-1
  • Indiana, 50-1
  • Illinois, 50-1
  • Maryland, 50-1
  • Purdue, 100-1
  • Rutgers, 100-1

Surprising it is to see the reigning B1G champs get 7-1 odds. Some might argue that Iowa, which was an L.J. Scott reach away from winning the title game last year, only got 9-1 odds. Both could be good value bets again in 2016 as likely preseason top-25 teams.

It’ll be interesting to see how those odds change as the season develops. But any fan of a B1G cellar dweller might be wise to put their money on the table sooner rather than later.

After all, five dollars doesn’t turn into $500 without a little roll of the dice.
