Posting a 7-4 (5-2 Conference USA) record, first-year head coach Jeff Traylor’s UTSA Roadrunners were scheduled to battle the SMU Mustangs (7-3, 4-3 American Athletic) in the first bowl game of the 2020 season, the Tropical Smoothie Frisco Bowl, on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Due to coronavirus (COVID-19) issues, however, the Mustangs were forced to back out, leading to the cancelation of this game on Tuesday.

UTSA will now play in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl on December 26 at 3:30 p.m. ET, which, coincidentally, will be held at Gerald J. Ford Stadium on SMU’s campus. The Roadrunners’ opponent for this game has yet to be unveiled.

The First Responder Bowl is set to air on ABC, marking an increase in exposure for UTSA.

Establishing their program in 2011, this will be the second bowl game in Roadrunner history, they previously fell to the New Mexico Lobos, 23-20, in the 2016 Gildan New Mexico Bowl under then-head coach Frank Wilson.
