Bowling Green will be honoring a couple of people connected to the world of college football during the Falcons’ Quick Lane Bowl appearance against New Mexico State.
Early Monday, Bowling Green announced a pair of helmet decals the team will wear in Monday’s bowl game. Those decals will honor Meechie Walker and longtime college football head coach Mike Leach with both people recently passing away at the end of the college football season.
Today, we will wear helmet stickers for the late Dametrius “Meechie” Walker, a former HS teammate of our own Billie Roberts and Jordan Porter.
We also will wear one to honor Coach Mike Leach (@HailStateFB), who also recently passed. pic.twitter.com/TWXsRf5mDK

Dametrius “Meechie” Walker was a 3-star prospect out of Muskegon, Michigan in the 2022 recruiting class before his battle with cancer. Walker drew a number of offers, including at the Power 5 level, during his high school career.
The Quick Lane Bowl will be played in Detroit with a pair of Walker’s former teammates also playing in the game on Bowling Green’s roster.
Leach was the head coach of Mississippi State and a beloved college football figure at the time of his passing. Leach also had notable head coaching stops at Texas Tech and Washington State.
