Brian Kelly reportedly leaving Notre Dame for SEC vacancy

It is not often a coach leaves Notre Dame for a new opportunity, but that is reportedly the case for Brian Kelly.
According to Pete Thamel with Yahoo! Sports, Kelly is leaving the Irish to take the head coaching job at LSU. The Tigers announced during the season that Ed Orgeron would not be returning and have been looking for his replacement.
If Thamel’s report holds up, that replacement will be Kelly:
Sources: LSU is expecting to hire Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly as the school’s next head coach. An announcement could come as early as tomorrow.

For a while, reports were circulating that LSU was targeting Lincoln Riley, but he went on to take the job at USC. While missing out on Riley might sting, grabbing Kelly would seem to be a home run for the Tigers.
Kelly has gone 92-39 at Notre Dame since taking over prior to the 2010 season. He has a career coaching record of 263-96-2 over previous stops at Cincinnati and Central Michigan, among others.
