Bryce Underwood will not be staying in the B1G to begin his college career.

A 5-star quarterback from Belleville (MI) High School, Underwood is rated as the top QB and the top overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class per the 247 Sports Composite. The 6-foot-3.5 and 205-pound QB was hotly pursued by a number of top programs, including the likes of Alabama, Michigan, LSU, Colorado, FSU, Penn State and Oregon.

Ultimately, Brian Kelly and his Tigers program won out for Underwood’s commitment Saturday evening. Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Underwood is ESPN’s top-ranked prospect and the second No. 1 overall recruit in program history for LSU. The first was star running back Leonard Fournette in the 2014 recruiting class.

Underwood has shined in his high school career, including a dominant start with back-to-back state titles in 2021 and 2022. He was named the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year (2021) and the MaxPreps Michigan Player of the Year (2022).

If Underwood does go on to sign with LSU, it will make 3 straight recruiting cycles (2023-25) that the top player in Michigan signs outside of the B1G. Dante Moore (2023) signed with UCLA before transferring to Oregon, CJ Carr (2024) has signed with Notre Dame and now Underwood is committing to LSU.

Those results have not slowed down Jim Harbaugh’s program with the Wolverines poised to play for the national title on Monday. Meanwhile, Jonathan Smith arrives in East Lansing with a chance to rebuild the Spartans after some recent disasters on and off the field for the Spartans.
