BYU schedules high-profile matchup with undefeated team in hopes of boosting CFP ranking
BYU isn’t giving up on its chase for the College Football Playoff.
The No. 13 Cougars have reportedly scheduled undefeated Coastal Carolina this weekend in hopes of putting another big win on their résumé. Coastal is currently ranked No. 18 in the CFP rankings.
This game is only possible because Coastal Carolina’s game with Liberty was canceled due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the Flames’ program.

It’s unclear how much this game will do to impact BYU’s standing in the College Football Playoff. The Cougars have been dominant so far, but they won’t have a Power 5 win to show off. Their best victories have come against Houston and Boise State.
However, adding a ranked win would theoretically boost BYU’s chances of at least qualifying for a NY6 bowl game. The same could be said for Coastal Carolina, who is competing for a NY6 slot with teams like Cincinnati, Marshall, Tulsa and Liberty.
BYU and Coastal will play on Saturday. Kick off time and network is to be announced.
