As reported earlier today, the Pac-12 opener between the Washington Huskies and the California Golden Bears scheduled for this Saturday has been canceled after a Cal player tested positive.

There were no details provided about how many players were in quarantine due to contact tracing, but Cal coach Justin Wilcox indicated that an entire position group will be quarantined due to the virus. “You can probably figure it out. It’s one you can’t play without. We had zero players available at that position due to contact tracing,” said Wilcox on Thursday.

The game will be declared a no-contest, per Pac-12 policy.

“It is very disappointing that we will not be opening our 2020 season this Saturday night against Washington,” Wilcox added.

“My heart goes out first and foremost to all of our players who have been through so much since the pandemic began and worked so hard under difficult circumstances to prepare themselves to play.”
