We’re still over a week away from Selection Sunday, but with the regular season winding down and conference tournament time almost here, college basketball experts are beginning to make some Final Four predictions.
College basketball expert and Big Ten Network contributor Andy Katz didn’t exactly narrow down his Final Four, but instead gave a list of a handful of teams from the B1G he believes could make a serious run for Atlanta this month. There are four teams Katz believes could make a it to the biggest stage in college basketball.
Katz believes Maryland, Michigan State, Michigan and Illinois have the best chances out of the B1G to punch their ticket to Atlanta.
Michigan might be the biggest stretch, considering the Wolverines are 9-9 in B1G play and 18-11 overall this season. They got off to a hot start to open the year, but have cooled off significantly since conference play got underway. They do have some talented pieces on the roster, so a run isn’t out of the question.
Maryland, Michigan State and Illinois all seem like solid picks, especially considering all sit atop the B1G standings. Maryland and Michigan State are tied with 13-6 marks in league play, with Illinois a half-game back at 12-6 right now.
All three teams have excellent contributors in the post and at the guard position, making them tough teams to defend. All three have shown the ability to rattle off several wins in a row and could potentially steal a few games during March Madness.
Below are Katz’s thoughts on those four teams, and why they could all make a push.
