Preseason polls and predictions are flying out of everywhere recently, especially with the Associated Press releasing its top-25 poll yesterday. The latest predictions, however, come from the CBS Sports staff.

The seven experts each posted how they thought the Big Ten season would play out, predicting the order in which each team would finish concluding 2016. Before they made their picks, each wrote about the most overrated team, most underrated team and gave a bold Big Ten prediction.

Three of the seven chose Michigan as the most overrated team:

It’s not that I think Michigan will be bad, I just feel we’re christening them as a great team too quickly. We don’t know who its quarterback is yet, and last year’s offense was pretty mediocre overall, particularly the run game. Throw in road games against Ohio State, Michigan State and Iowa, and I think this is a very good team, but not a great team just yet. — Tom Fornelli (In agreement: Dennis Dodd, Jerry Palm)

Three of the seven picked Northwestern as the most underrated team:

Northwestern has the top returning rusher in the Big Ten in Justin Jackson and a solid front seven, led by CBS Sports Preseason All-American linebacker Anthony Walker. The schedule isn’t favorable, but no coach gets more out of his guys than Pat Fitzgerald. — Jerry Palm (In agreement: Jon Solomon, Robby Kalland)

The boldest prediction of the staff was probably made by Jon Solomon, “Urban Meyer will get his young and talented team to win the East, but the Buckeyes will be upset by more experienced Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game as the hungry Hawkeyes will redeem last year’s Big Ten title loss.”

As for where each team would finish, the majority chose as follows:

East Division:

No. 1 Ohio State
No. 2 Michigan/Michigan State (Three votes for each team finishing second)
No. 3 Michigan State (Beating Michigan by one vote)
No. 4 Penn State
No. 5 Indiana
No. 6 Maryland
No. 7 Rutgers

West Division:

No. 1 Iowa (Five of seven votes)
No. 2 Nebraska/Northwestern/Iowa (Two votes for each team finishing second)
No. 3 Wisconsin/Nebraska/Northwestern (Two votes for each team finishing third)
No. 4 Wisconsin (Four of seven votes)
No. 5 Minnesota
No. 6 Illinois
No. 7 Purdue

The East Division seems to be a lot more clear, with the top dogs being Ohio State and Michigan. For the West Division, however, is where the voting got more hectic. After Iowa got the most votes to finish first, Nebraska, Northwestern and Wisconsin mostly found themselves somewhere between two-through-four.
