CBS Sports unveils All-America teams

CBS Sports is the latest to release its All-America teams following the conclusion of an exciting 2017 season in college football.

Two teams were selected by CBS Sports, and 10 players from the B1G earned recognition with First- and Second-team honors. Only the ACC matched that total, also have 10 players picked.

Five of those 10 selections were First-team All-Americans, tied for second-most for a conference. The Big XII led the way with seven selections, followed by the B1G and the SEC. No other conference had more than three selections.

Here are the First-team selections from CBS Sports:

Offense

  • QB: Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma
  • RB: Bryce Love, Stanford
  • RB: Rashaad Penny, San Diego State
  • WR: James Washington, Oklahoma State
  • WR: David Sills V, West Virginia
  • TE: Mark Andrews, Oklahoma
  • C: Frank Ragnow, Arkansas
  • OL: Orlando Brown, Oklahoma
  • OL: Mike McGlinchey, Notre Dame
  • OL: Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame
  • OL: Braden Smith, Auburn

Defense

  • DL: Bradley Chubb, NC State
  • DL: Ed Oliver, Houston
  • DL: Hercules Mata’afa, Washington State
  • DL: Maurice Hurst, Michigan
  • LB: Roquan Smith, Georgia
  • LB: Josey Jewell, Iowa
  • LB: Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Oklahoma
  • CB: Joshua Jackson, Iowa
  • CB: Denzel Ward, Ohio State
  • S: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama
  • S: Derwin James, Florida State

Special Teams

  • K: Daniel Carlson, Auburn
  • P: Michael Dickson, Texas
  • KR: Tony Pollard, Memphis
  • PR: Dante Pettis, Washington
  • AP: Saquon Barkley, Penn State

As you can tell, no B1G players were named to the First-team offense while four earned First-team defense honors. Saquon Barkley was tabbed as the all-purpose player.

In addition to the five First-team All-American selections, the B1G also had five Second-team picks:

  • RB: Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin
  • C: Billy Price, Ohio State
  • DL: Nick Bosa, Ohio State
  • CB: Nick Nelson, Wisconsin
