Buckle up, college football fans. A wild week is coming with players hopping into the NCAA transfer portal and coaches working on roster management.

According to Yahoo Sports, college football student-athletes need to provide their schools with a written request to enter the NCAA transfer portal by May 1 in order to receive immediate eligibility for the 2022 season. Any players who hit provide the request later than that date must receive a waiver from the NCAA.

With the deadline in place and spring practices coming to a close across the country, this could be one of the busiest weeks for the transfer portal.

According to a story from ESPN, more than 3,600 players at the FBS level have already entered the transfer portal this year. A specific date was not mentioned and the number of student-athletes that found a new home was not included, either.

Breaking that down by the number of teams at the FBS level (130 in 2021 and 131 in 2022), that equates to approximately 27.5 players per team. That would include scholarship players, walk-ons and incoming recruits.

Expect that number to continue to grow this week.
