It’s certainly a surprising move considering his father’s ties to Ohio State. Kirk Herbstreit played for the Buckeyes from 1989-92 and served as their starting quarterback for 2 seasons.
As a prospect, Herbstreit has gone under-the-radar during his recruitment. He does not have a 247Sports Composite ranking. However, On3 has Herbstreit rated as the No. 128 quarterback in the country for the class of 2025. He’s listed at 6-foot-2 and attends St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati.
Chase is Herbstreit’s youngest son. His other sons previously suited up for Clemson and Ohio State.
Chase joins a star-studded Michigan recruiting class. He’s the second QB in this cycle for the Wolverines, as they previously signed No. 1 overall recruit Bryce Underwood in the class of 2025.
Overall, Michigan’s 2025 high school class ranks No. 9 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
