With both programs owning just one loss, Friday night’s matchup between the No. 18 UCF Knights (4-1) and the Cincinnati Bearcats (3-1) at Nippert Stadium is setting up to be a pivotal early-season American Athletic Conference battle.

Before the two teams kick things off on Friday, Cincinnati decided to have some fun on social media. The official Twitter account of Cincinnati Football tweeted out a few images of a new-look, black turf field that it was “unveiling” for Friday night’s game.

And, when you look at the images, it’s easy to see why it was so popular.

Unfortunately, it was a hoax. According to a report from WLWT, Cincinnati was “just having some fun” on social media. The Bearcats won’t have a black turf field against UCF.

Opening their season with a 24-14 victory over the UCLA Bruins, Cincinnati was pummeled by No. 4 Ohio State, 42-0, on September 7. Since that time, the Bearcats have won two straight, including their 38-point beatdown of Marshall on September 28.

No stranger to the top-25 since 2017, UCF began the year 3-0 before falling to Pat Narduzzi and the Pitt Panthers, 35-34, on September 21. Posting a record of 25-1 over the previous two seasons, the loss to Pitt was the first regular season loss for UCF since November 26, 2016 at USF.

Set to meet for the fifth time, UCF has won three of the four previous meetings with the Bearcats. Friday’s action will kick at 8:00PM ET and be televised on ESPN.
