One of the hottest names on the market for head coaches is Liberty’s Hugh Freeze. Freeze was reportedly contacted by Texas Tech regarding its vacancy.

Liberty has responded to the interest in its coach by providing Freeze with an extension through the 2028 season. The Flames have amassed a 25-10 record during Freeze’s tenure.

“We are grateful for Coach Freeze’s outstanding leadership of our football program and positive impact on our student-athletes,” Liberty Director of Athletics Ian McCaw said. “Liberty football continues to thrive and we are excited that Coach Freeze will lead our transition into Conference USA.”

Liberty has a 7-4 overall record this season heading into the regular-season finale vs. Army. The Flames defeated a pair of ACC opponents (Syracuse, Virginia Tech) in 2020.

Prior to Liberty, Freeze was the head coach at Ole Miss from 2012-2016 before resigning due to violating the morals clause in his contract.
