The drama for this year’s Playoff field came for the final two spots. Entering Championship Weekend, TCU and USC occupied the No. 3 and No. 4 spots but both teams lost on the final weekend.

Those losses opened the door for conversation to swirl about the possibility of Ohio State to make a jump, and some even made the case for potential 2-loss programs in Alabama and Tennessee.

In the end, here is how the committee unveiled the Playoff field on Selection Sunday:

Peach Bowl

  • No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 4 Ohio State

Fiesta Bowl

  • No. 2 Michigan vs. No. 3 TCU

Alabama was the first team left out at No. 5 while Tennessee checked in at No. 6 behind the Tide.

While the cries from Tuscaloosa will ring out for some time, the B1G officially lands two teams in the Playoff for the first time ever. Now, fans will have to wait and see if the Buckeyes and Wolverines can produce a rematch of The Game, or if the defending champion Bulldogs will potentially play for a repeat title under Kirby Smart.
