College Football Playoff rankings debut this week. Nine weeks into the college football season, the CFP selection committee is set to unveil its initial rankings set live on ESPN Tuesday night.

The Big Ten is expected to have three teams inside the top 10 of the first batch of rankings — Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. While there’s some truth to the adage the first ranking might not ultimately matter, the last time a team started outside the top 10 in the College Football Playoff rankings and made the field was in 2015.

How does the committee rank the top two teams in the conference at this early juncture? Is more respect paid to the way Michigan has dominated every opponent it has faced this season? Or will Ohio State get more credit for who it has played? There figures to be a lengthy discussion about the B1G’s elite on Tuesday’s ESPN broadcast.

The rankings will be released live on ESPN every week going forward. The full schedule for the rest of the year is below:

  • CFP rankings release No. 1 — Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 7-8 p.m. ET
  • CFP rankings release No. 2 — Tuesday, Nov. 7 from 7-8 p.m. ET
  • CFP rankings release No. 3 — Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 9-9:30 p.m. ET (approximate)
  • CFP rankings release No. 4 — Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 7-8 p.m. ET
  • CFP rankings release No. 5 — Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 7-7:30 p.m. ET
  • College Football Playoff Selection Sunday — Sunday, Dec. 3 from noon-4 p.m. ET

(The third rankings reveal on Nov. 14 is scheduled to take place after the first game of a doubleheader at the State Farm Champions Classic. The approximate start time for the show is 9 p.m. ET.)
